Morning Skincare Routine
Well hello 2017, it's been a while since my last post..
2016 was a crazy year for me in my personal life. Just a name a few things; a new job, heartbreak, moving house twice & discovering the importance of true friendships. My blog definitely suffered last year, but I'm looking forward to the fresh start that 2017 brings.
I've moved into my own place for the first time in my life, and I'm loving it! This year is all about looking after myself, doing what makes me happy and a lot of "treat yoself" moments.
What better way than to start off each day feeling fresh and looking after your skin? Continue reading to see how I get ready on a typical morning before work.
6:00am - Wake up
I turn my alarm off, then lie in bed scrolling through social media. I realise I could get extra sleep, but I really like having that time to myself in the morning. It's Summer at the moment in Melbourne so I like to wake up with the sunrise in the morning. I also use Slip silk pillowcases, because they're so much better for my skin and hair! I have them in the shade Charcoal.
6:45am - Begin skincare routine
If I'm having breakfast before work, I'll usually have it before my morning skincare routine begins. Sometimes I'll skip breakfast at home and eat when I get into the office. I usually shower at night to save time in the morning.
I've been loving the Phillips Sonicare toothbrush! It's gentle but cleans so effectively, even my dentist commented on how clean my teeth were at my last check up! This toothbrush is expensive, but it's worth every dollar in my opinion (and I was lucky to buy it on sale).
These are the four products I use in the morning; cleanser, vitamin C serum and two sunscreens. I don't wear two sunscreens for extra SPF protection because it doesn't work like that, I just like the way the first one moisturises and the second one has oil control.
Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser
This is my all time favourite cleanser. It's simple and gentle. I use it on oily skin days, dry skin days and everything in between. This cleanser would suit everyone's skin. If you've been considering trying it...just get it, you won't regret it!!
Paula's Choice Resist C15 Super Booster
I've been really enjoying this vitamin C serum. It's supposed to fade marks, improve skin brightness and overall just bring your skin back to life. It will take a few weeks before you start to see the effects of a vitamin C, but I definitely noticed my skin glowing and looking more plump.
I apply 3 drops to dry skin, and let it sit for around 10 minutes before applying the next step. I usually use this in the morning, but sometimes I use it at night too.
Please note that this serum should be clear, and when it oxidizes (turns yellow like in my photo) it needs to be thrown out!! I need to purchase a new one, but I kept this for the sake of the photo. Keeping it in the fridge will help it to last longer before oxidizing. I had this for about 3-4 months before it turned this shade.
To be honest, I haven't tried any other vitamin C serums, but I really enjoyed this one!
7:10am - Finish skincare routine & makeup time
Mecca To Save Face 30+
While my vitamin C serum is doing it's magic on my skin, I get dressed, pack my handbag and then it's time to finish getting ready!
This stuff is just amazing. I'm currently on my 4th tube of this stuff at the moment, I can't live without it. It's sunscreen, without smelling and feeling like sunscreen. It dries clear and is a great simple moisturiser and primer. It's a 3-in-1 product that everyone needs to have. I apply about twice as much as the dollop on the back of my back of my hand in the photo.
Paula's Choice Resist Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30+
This is one of my favourite products ever. It's a tinted sunscreen, and it has the best oil control! It only comes in one colour, which is quite pink toned, but you can barely tell when you apply makeup on top.
This sunscreen is perfect for people with oily skin, but it can be slightly drying, which is why I apply it over the top of a moisturiser. This is just so reliable, as it stays put all day! I use this in place of primer because the oil control is better than any primer I've ever tried. I don't recommend using this at night though, because it has flashback from the zinc oxide. Again, I apply about twice as much as what's on my hand in this photo.
7:30am - Out the door
I haven't included anything about my work makeup, because I want that to be a seperate tutorial, so stay tuned. Instead, below is a snapchat I took after my standard run to the train station.
What's your favourite part of your morning routine? I love mornings and everything about them.
